We have Big Brother here, though I don't know if it's the same show or just an American version of the show.
Can't give an opinion because I've never seen it. But then, I've never seen a minute of Survivor or Who Wants To Be Millionaire.
I suppose these shows all came about because MTV had luck with The Real world and becuase they are cheaper to make than other TV shows. But, I've never liked Real World. It never seemed 'real' to me. They never seemed to pick any people who were anything like anyone I ever knew (at least not in the bits I've seen). I never saw anyone who I could relate to as "so much like me".
But, then, I'm older than the MTV target audience.
