I hate to defend Britney, but I can see where she would get the impression that they were still an item. From what I've read, she says they are still involved.
I can see Justin's side, too, in that, he knows her and is comfortable with her and so, when the romantic mood strikes, she would be a logical person to turn to, if he isn't currently with someone as boyfriend/girlfriend.
I see potential for true ugliness here if they aren't both very up front with each other about what they want and expect.
Hopefully that won't happen, though.
