comments: Fourteen year old Jamie Bell is a newcomer with lots of potential. Jamie stars in the funny and poignant film Billy Elliot. He plays a motherless schoolboy in northern England who trades his boxing gloves for ballet slippers to the dismay of his miner dad. Jamie won the role after auditioning (seven times!) along with 2000 other boys. For a kid who never acted before, he steals the film with a magnificent performance. It helps that Jamie has been taking ballet lessons since he was 7, no doubt. After the film came out in Canada, Billy's name was whispered as a possible for the coveted Harry Potter role (that went to a slightly younger actor). We think Jamie has a long career ahead of him even without Potter. You'll be seeing a lot more of this talented young star.
