comments: From Finland comes the beautiful and talented teen sensation, KIDi. Virtually unknown in the US, KIDi is quite the hit in Finland and Europe. Starting his career at the age of 4 with dance lessons, he attended music kindergarten where his love for dancing took hold. Years of dance lessons led to his current situation: in 1996 KIDi and three dancers from a group called Dance Action formed a band called "@tak" which became popular in Finland and nearby Denmark. In 1997 the group opened for Michael Jackson in Helsinki. The group has enjoyed a series of Top 40 hits in Finland and they were nominated "Best Newcomer" at the 1997 EMMA Awards (the Finnish Grammys). In March of 1999 KIDi set off on a solo career, having become more and more interested in progressive house and trance. Today, KIDi's performances are a reflection of his love for the club scene-a combination of rhythmic music, powerful dance acts and mesmerizing lighting. His skillfully crafted choreography usually includes a group of female background dancers. Last year KIDi was invited to the US by friends in San Diego, and spent a month soaking up the local scene. "At the San Diego Zoo visitors seemed to be more interested in my piercings and hairstyle than in the monkeys!" During his stay he visited a few record companies and appeared on a popular local radio show called "The Lounge" (KPBS 89.5FM). Sherif Osman, a talented Egyptian producer living in Finland, composes KIDi's music. KIDi's record company, Music Aventura Oy, is based in Finland. We're hoping KIDi returns to the US soon and gives the rest of us a taste of his brand of music and dance.
