comments: Kelly Slater is a stud. World surfing champion goes Hollywood, then goes back to his surfing roots. Here's what the surf world had to say about Kelly's brush with the cameras: "In a period of less than two years, Slater went from the classroom to the showroom, where he became the best-known surfer in the world. The later resulted from scores of media interviews, surfing videos and a regular role that he landed on the popular television series, "Bay Watch," despite possessing only minimal acting experience. Feature articles appeared in major newspapers and magazines; a modeling calendar followed. Shortly thereafter, the rumors worked their way from surfing's own inner circle into Slater's psyche. As too often the case with the famous, vicious assumptions began to circulate. Some said that Slater had sold out surfing by "going Hollywood," and that his world title was a flash-in-the-pan fluke discounted to a random occurrence or dumb luck." Kelly continues in his surfing career, and he's also joined a band of fellow surfers and formed a, well, a band. Their debut album was released last year, it's called: "Songs From the Pipe".
