comments: Michael Vartan is a name that pretty soon will be on the lips of every moviegoer in the US! You know him as Sam Coulson, the handsome teacher that stole Drew Barrymore's heart in Never Been Kissed. But before he played a too-cute teacher, he was just a shy kid like the rest of us. Born in the small Normandy village of Fleury to a French father and an American mother, he dropped out of school at the age of 16 and was raised primarily by his father. When he was 18, he moved to Los Angeles with his mother. Several of his mother's friends said that he had an "interesting look" and that he should get involved in acting. Michael says he was a "really shy, introverted kid" and enrolled in some acting classes, figuring it couldn't hurt. Afterwards, he started working in both American and French films. Look for him in his next role in the movie The Curve with Keri Russel and Matthew Lillard. And he's alongside Madonna, among others, in The Next Best Thing, now in theaters. Michael has also appeared on "Friends" as a hearthrob doctor.
