comments: From teen hunk to leading man to megastar, that's the story of Tom Cruise. There's no denying the man's gone from gorgeous teen hunk to a gorgeous megastar commanding $20 to $30 million a picture. But it's debatable whether he can, or will, step outside the narrow box of characters he's played in most his films. Sometimes it seems like he's playing the same character over and over again. It seems to work though, America and the world loves the lovable Tom with the winning smile and the way with the ladies. We happen to think the man can act. For it's precisely when he's stepped outside of that narrow box into challenging and meaty roles (read=low box office), he's come through with flying colors. It's in films like All the Right Moves (a vastly underrated film in our opinion), Interview with the Vampire and especially, Born on the Fourth of July where Tom shows exactly what he has. Tom hit it big over 15 years ago now as the lovable nerd (only Tom could make us believe that someone that gorgeous was a nerd!) in Risky Business. It'll be a long time before anyone forgets his hilarious, and sexy dance to Bob Seegar in his underwear. Tom's career sounds like a list of some of the past 15 year's biggest films (and a few stinkers along the way, like Cocktail). And he's worked alongside some of Hollywood's biggest stars (Dustin, Paul, Brad, etc.) He is definitely in a position to make the most of his hot box office status. Let's hope he uses it more often for films like Jerry Maguire. We know he's got it in him. Last seen: in Stanley Kubrick's last film, a provocative Eyes Wide Shut with spouse Nicole Kidman. Tom was nominated for an Oscar for his role in Magnolia. Next up: volume two of the Mission Impossible franchise, directed by John Woo.
