the story: Kavana was discovered by the manager of the now defunct Take That, and his debut single "Crazy Chance" was written by the group's Howard Donald.

Right from the start, Anthony Kavanagh ( Kavana or Kav to his pals ) had been touted as the best mate of Take That. But in no time, Kav managed to step out of Take That's shadow. His self-titled debut album spawned five Top 40 singles, with hits like "I Can Make You Feel Good" and "MFEO" peaking at No 8 on the UK charts.

We went mad for the floppy-haired popster with the angel's voice and smooth moves. His popularity escalated when he toured with Spice Girls, Boyzone and Backstreet Boys. He also won "Best Male Singer 1997" in a poll conducted by Smash Hits magazine, beating more established singers like Gary Barlow and Robbie Williams! He has also been rumoured to be dating Sporty Spice aka Mel C and the latest teen popstar, Billie.

By late last year, Kav was fed up with the way his manager was running the show. "He'd only really managed Take That and I don't think he really understood that it was a musical thingy with me, rahter than just a cheeky-chappy-next-door thing," Kav told a mag. *Sigh* But although it must have been hard for him to do so, Kav bravely gave his manager the boot and took off for a four-week break in America.

Nobody's heard from Kav for almost a year but that's because he's been working on his new album. His holiday in the States was exactly what he needed to recharge his batteries and he came back to the scene with a new manager.

• Kav on the new CD: "It gives me joy to do this kind of music. I suppose it's what i would listen to. I mean, I made a record that I would listen to which is perfect. Of course, you have to keep in mind the market, cater to the fans and can't be too up yourself."
